When you walk down a hall, you need something to look at,
am I right?
I had decided that I wanted to hang a mirror at the end of the hall, because I like the way it adds light. (Not so much so I can look at myself while walking toward it.....Ha!) I had a mirror at the end of the hall before - and I liked it - however, in order to have it hang at the right height, it covered part of the light-switch (nope, not good).
I have quite a few mirrors in my house, and I never object to moving them around, so I recruited my kids to help me brainstorm, keeping in mind my light-switch-in-a-random-spot-on-the-wall dilemma. The 15 year old boy won: he listened very closely to my dilemmas and then came up with this: hang a cute little shelf below the light-switch to make the wall look coherent.
Awesome idea....
What an incredibly astute teen!
Where does he get that?
I used brown paper (bags) cut-to-size of the decor to decide on the positioning. This is a great trick I have used for years, and it works every time. So much easier to re-position a piece of paper than a heavy picture.... (let alone the heavy-duty nail in the wall)
(Don't you hate it when in the middle of the night you hear something fall in the house and then you can't sleep until you figure out what it was? Does this sound familiar to any of you..??)
To clean the mirror along the wooden detailing, I use a dry paintbrush and vacuum:
~ just wiggle that brush around and vacuum up all the dust it finds ~
I am pretty happy with how it all turned out. Walking down the hall makes me smile now.... :)
And my 15 year old boy said he really liked the way it turned out: Yay!
Have a great day!
