My friend is expecting so I decided to sew her a diaper-bag with lots of pockets inside- and-out to stay organized and a variety of fabrics and textures. I love the contrast within the strap of two different fabrics. the exterior of the bag is nice and soft with corduroy! I love that stuff so much. I have made lots of different versions of the Rachel Handbag over the years, and here is another one: the up-cycled onion sack style handbag I love the Rachel Handbag for several reasons:
Onion sacks are so fun because they come in fabulous bright colors, plus they give a great up-cycling vibe. I line them with regular fabric for strength and ease of sewing Pockets keep my life organized. When I know WHERE I keep things in my purse , I can more easily find them:

One of the bags I made was made out of the selvedge edges from some of the fabrics I had laying around in my sewing room. Partying with these bloggy friends.... & the Dedicated House, the Charm of Home, Coastal Charm, Savvy Southern Style, Today’s Creative Blog, Home Stories A 2 Z, The Shabby Nest, The Shabby Creek Cottage, Thrifty Decor Chick, Between Naps on the Porch My friends in Washington are married to onion farmers, and to credit their husbands' hard work, these onion sack backpacks were created! Aren't they fun for kids? So bold and colorful! I used the free Dedre backpack pattern to sew up these lined backpacks. As you can see I omitted the optional large pocket on the front. I kinda like 'em!! Great as a soccer bag, or for piano books, perhaps a little swim bag.... What would YOUR kids use these backpacks for? Partying with these bloggy friends.... & the Dedicated House, the Charm of Home, Coastal Charm, Savvy Southern Style, Today’s Creative Blog, Home Stories A 2 Z, The Shabby Nest, The Shabby Creek Cottage, Thrifty Decor Chick, Between Naps on the Porch We still have several fun purses available for sale, so hop on over to the shop to take a look and get yours mailed out in time for Christmas. Please follow this link Because I have such a weakness for purses and anything from the Netherlands, I thought I would share these awesome bags with you.... I hope you'll like them as much as I do.... :) My friend and blog reader Ingrid van Berchum lives in Holland (the Netherlands) and LOVES to make handbags: a girl after my heart! She was so generous as to share a couple of the purses she has made over the last few months, using PTT Post canvas from the actual mailbags used by the Dutch post office. Ingrid purchased the PTT Post stof: at Samitex in Wierden The messenger bag sewing tutorial Ingrid used (and made some minor alterations to) is available at OCD: Obsessive Crafting Disorder. Using colors from the Dutch flag (red, white and blue) Ingrid crocheted this wonderful messenger bag using a design by Stella Roodbeen. this is the winning design of the KreaDoe 2011 contest and was published in HobbyHandig Magazine, no. 165, Jan./Feb. 2012 (written in Dutch). Ingrid crocheted this fab bag using Catina Cotton (red, white and blue) and Phildar cotton (tan) . The interior and adjustable shoulder strap are also made of PTT sack fabric, but of a softer, thinner variety.... I think these Dutch vibe bags are so marvelous..... Whatdoyouthink? I link up to a number of these bloggy friends.... as well as to Today’s Creative Blog, TipJunkie, Home Stories A 2 Z, Funky Junk Interiors, The Shabby Nest, My Repurposed Life, The Shabby Creek Cottage, Thrifty Decor Chick, Between Naps on the Porch With Christmas coming up, it is time to make some fun bags for your girlfriends, sisters, and moms (yes, that includes mom-in-law), maybe even your daughters... (Isn't it fun when little girls grow big...????) So I thought this would be a great time to post another free purse pattern: this time it is the Ronda Handbag sewing pattern. The Ronda Handbag was featured in Haute Handbags Magazine, Spring 2010 issue. Clickhere to learn more I love the Ronda Handbag so much! When I carry it around it surprises me how super convenient it is! I love the pockets on the side. So easy to get to! Even my husband can now find my keys! The front and back are simple, but so fun when you use a specialty fabric with a fun print or so.... The sides have those handy dandy pockets right below a playful tie.... So adorable... And inside: more pockets, even one with a zipper! And the straps are long enough that you can go shopping hands-free! So convenient........ Just hang that purse over your shoulder, and walk around the store. No worries about keeping track of your cart and where your purse might be.... Love it.... The pattern is downloadable at the bottom of this post. Measurements: excluding the handles: 9 x 14 x 4.5 inches As seen in Haute Handbags Spring 2010 © 2010 Crystelle Boutique, Marijke Mill designer Fabric Fabric A 45 inch wide ¾ yard Fabric B ⅓ yard Fabric C ½ yard Fusible Fleece ½ yard Peltex, opt.* 4 inches Other • Coordinating Thread • 9 inch zipper (optional—for zippered pocket) • 4-5 inch ribbon for zipper-pull (opt.) • Fray Check The pattern includes detailed step-by-step instructions for an interior patch pocket & an interior zippered pocket. The point-by-point directions make them quite easy to make, but, of course, you may just omit the pockets altogether if you'd like..... I used to sell this sewing pattern on Etsy, and this is what one customer said: "Yahoo! What a fun purse to make and your directions were so concise and easy to follow. I'd never done a zipper pocket and loved it! My bag is adorable even if I do say so!! Thanks again to your creative pattern and potato sack! My sack says Penny Pincher and thanks to your good prices for your pattern and sack, I'm happy to say I am! Your company is great! I know I will be referring friends to you as soon as they see my new purse!" What a sweetheart..... Sew to your heart's content! hugs X Crystelle Send me pictures of your finished Ronda Handbag to be featured on our Show and Tell page. We would love to see your awesome bag!
