Hello to all of the followers of Crystelle Boutique! I'm happy to be guest posting on Crystelle's blog today. I’m Julie and I blog at Home Is Where The Heart Is. Each day of the week I blog about a different category. On Fridays, I blog about anything about fashion and beauty. Are you tall and have problems finding tops that fit right? Are tops too short or too long? I am 5'10" and I sometimes have problems finding tops that fit just right. I have a long torso, so I have to find tops that are the perfect length. I can't have the top be too short or too long. If the top is too short, I have to constantly pull it down. If the top is too long, it doesn't look right on me. My torso is long enough and looks too long with long tops.

As far as architectural features go, balconies – as pretty and as impressive as they can be – are rarely considered to be a building's most famous feature. In fact, it is often the case that facades, rooftops, courtyards, pillars, windows and even doors are seen as being more integral to a building's overall charm than balconies. However, this is not always the case. Indeed, there have been some notable exceptions to this 'rule', both in real life and in film and fiction. Below are six examples of balconies which have become just as famous as the buildings they are attached to. Read more.... Living in a cosy home has a huge impact on the way you feel about spending time indoors. Creating a lovely atmosphere at home that you feel great spending time in, is essential for every person. Considering the busy schedules we have these days, it is extremely important to make sure that we go back home in the evening to a nice home that gives us the feeling of comfort and pleasure. Read more.... There’s so much talk about healthy living these days but so little talk about what you actually need to live a healthy life. You don’t truly need the latest green juice or fitness tracker—you need clean air to breathe. Fresh air—indoors and out—is at the core of a healthy life. Without it, people may (and do) experience several negative health effects, including allergies, worsened asthma and other respiratory conditions. The cleanness of your home is an essential rule for your well-being. Whether you have a big house or a small and cosy apartment, the cleaning is an important duty you must perform regularly in order to feel good in your real estate property and to help extend its life in the future. In the cleaning process must be included every room, object and space from your home because without thorough sanitation it will be easier for the germs and bacteria to become a permanent guest in your property. Taking care of the cleaning according to a schedule will help you get better organized and maintain a good level of hygiene in the place you live in. The decorating of the home is another important rule which gives to the property a sense of personality. By placing your favourite pictures, books, and various accessories here and there you turn this property into a real home. You have the freedom to make all the home improvements in the world you want to transform your place into a cosy and beautiful home, so the more efforts you put in the work on the interior design, the better. But whatever you do, make sure that you designate a little space in the home that is only yours. This will be a place where you can go when you need to relax, to release the stress or just to be by yourself for a while. Because of the size it will be very easy to clean and maintain and it can be anywhere you like. Here are some ideas: A Place By the Window The apartments usually don't provide much space. That doesn't mean, however, that you still can't find a nice corner, place by the window or room to set apart only for yourself. First, learn what are the advantages of your apartment. If it has a small size but, for example, has big windows with a nice view, then you can settle there. Just imagine how nice it will be to create your own little library with a great place to read near the window where you will get natural light. This home improvement won't be hard to achieve at all. All you have to do is get a couple or shelves for your books which you can install near the window, some wider drawers you will place under it for sitting and a couple of cushions. A Secret Room If you want to completely hide from the world in a small place which is only yours, then a secret room will serve this purpose perfectly. This idea is more suitable for a big house, however, because it will require more complicated repairs and a little more space. One way to create a secret room is to build in a big book shelf in one of the walls in your home which will open and serve as a door to the hidden room. The closet might be perfect for the purpose since this is a small space which won't require much cleaning and maintaining later. The original entrance to the closet you can either leave or remove. In the inner space itself you can place your favourite books or you can directly turn it into a meditation room or a secluded space where you can do your yoga. The décor of your home will be completely changed only with several home improvements. Deciding to create a small space just for you will make you feel great and very cosy in your home. This renovation won't affect the cleaning of your property at all because the small size of the space will require minimum cares and the sanitation process will happen really quickly. The warmth of wood provides cosiness not only for your home, but also for your garden and courtyard. Decking can be a really fashionable solution for people who want to decorate their homes in some unusual and fancy way. It is widely spread in the North America, as well as in some of the North European countries. It was first introduced in the middle of the 20th century as a very good alternative to the traditional stone decorations. Advantages Unlike the other ways of flooring, such as terracotta and the traditional decorative stone, decking your courtyard does not require any base. It is a waste of time, requires a lot of hard working and makes the floorings really expensive. Wood is a natural and ecological material and if you want to include it in the decoration of your home, you can choose among a variety of different colours. Also, if it is of high quality, it will last for at least 15 years. Of course,in order to prolong its life, decking needs some special cares, as everything else in your house does. But this treatment is totally worth the time and efforts. You can cover the path to your front door, the area around your pool or your garden. You don't have to daub your garden with building refuse and materials. The only thing you are supposed to do is using your imagination in order to turn your courtyard into a dream place. How to do it? There is not a big difference in the boards, used for this type of flooring and the boards for the regular wooden floor. They are around 13 centimeters wide; as for the length - it has to be cut out according to the area you had planned to cover. You can use either smoothly polished surfaces, or rough boards (in order not to get slippery in a rainy weather). You arrange the boards parallel with one another. It is very important not to place it directly on the ground, but on a special grille. Such an arrangement is very useful, because it protects the surface from getting in direct contact with the moist soil and prevents the boards from holding humidity and it is easier for companies like FlatCleanLondon to get it cleaned. Decking is the perfect solution for your country house or villa You can cover the paths in your courtyard, the stairs leading to the terrace, a certain part of your garden etc. You can turn it into an elegant dining-room under the sky and form a cosy corner, where you can enjoy your afternoon coffee or gather the whole family for a dinner in the summer evenings. You are free to be creative and the best part is that decking allows you to realize your best ideas. Though it is a very appropriate solution for your country house, there are some places where it is not very wise to use wood and where decking is not quite suitable for. These are the houses, built in the so-called 'new architecture style' from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, where stone has found its place as a classical solution.
Still, decking is a great solution of the backyards of people, who care about cosiness and attractive look of their home's exterior. Decking could provide you not only with both unusual and fancy appearance of your home's backyard, but also has a long life if maintained carefully, which on the other hand will save you time, efforts and money. And last, but not least – you will be provided with the opportunity to create your own design thanks to the boards used in the project, which will make your backyard a reflection of your own style and preferences. Guest post by Candice Hubbard If you have a lot of tall trees around your home that have been growing and thriving for years, eventually it's going to happen. You will find that it's necessary for you to protect your concrete slab foundation from the extending and expanding roots with a root barrier. The reason for the use of this type of barrier is to prevent the roots from working their way under the concrete slab, sucking up the water, and ultimately making the foundation settle. About Root Barriers If you are considering putting a barrier in to keep tree roots from damaging the concrete foundation of a house, then you should consult an arborist. He will be able to advise you on the best way to proceed. Then step by step you will have the confidence of knowing that you are doing the right thing and correcting the problem as it should be corrected. Barriers for tree roots are most beneficial when they are installed in the appropriate place and at the appropriate time. If the barriers are not installed properly, they can keep a healthy root system from evolving for the tree or fail to supply sufficient protection from vigorously growing roots. The correct preparation of the soil surrounding your tree at the time it is planted can serve to make your root barrier more effective plus help the tree grow a strong and healthy root system that is located away from foundations, and another consideration, buried utilities. Types of Root Barriers Root barriers are available in a wide selection of materials and types with clear pluses and minuses to each. Let's start with discussing solid barriers. Solid barriers consist of panels created from corrosion-resistant metal, or perhaps fiberglass, or even plastic which make an impermeable wall that the roots just cannot pass through. This kind of barrier actually works quite well, but can stop water in the ground from draining correctly, and if the barrier is not big enough then the roots can and will grow around it. A permeable barrier has a mesh screen that is meant to let water and also small roots get through. This kind of barrier keeps large roots from causing damage to certain structures. The best type of barrier combines a permeable barrier together with a long-lasting chemical in order to prevent roots from growing. Barrier Installation The effectiveness of your barrier depends a great deal on how it is installed, as incorrect installation can negatively impact its ability to redirect the offending roots. The ideal way to protect a buried structure, such as your concrete slab, is to put in a continuous root barrier which is the exact same length as the diameter of the tree once it has reached maturity, plus an additional two feet along the entire length of the structure on the side nearest the tree. Any arborist will tell you that these barriers must reach a depth of 2 feet or more to have any meaningful impact on reducing large, damaging roots. Ideally the barrier should be installed at planting time, to prevent harming the root system of the tree. Biography: Candice Hubbard had been an Arborist Sydney, for a decade, and as such has plenty of experience with root barriers and the like. She has written many, many articles on the proper care of trees and their roots systems.
Today's feature for the Tall Tales series comes from the lovely and beautiful (inside AND out) Carrie Groneman from A Mother's Shadow. She shares an inspiring story with us that will inspire all: Walking Tall I was born a preemie just under four pounds and very small. My family is fairly short-to-average size, and I expected to be like the other women in my family. I remember when I grew taller than my grandma, my mom, and aunt; and realized I would probably be tall. I am - at 5’10”. Do not misunderstand, being tall is not a curse or bad. However, for me, it was, and has been a challenge. For example, finding blouses, skirts, pants and clothing that are long enough is a quest I’m constantly on. It seems I have always cringed at being noticed as above average height. One day I was at the grocery store and an older man stopped me and said, “My, you’re a tall drink of water, aren’t you.” I laughed, but it seemed to reinforce my mistaken viewpoint that I had something to be embarrassed about. I have thought long and hard about why my perspective of being tall has been a downfall, instead of an attribute to be embraced. As a teenager I hunched over terribly when I walked. As an adult, I constantly remind myself to ‘stand up straight’. Digging deep, I wondered why I do that anyway, particularly because I admire and find those who stand up straight and proud very attractive and show great confidence. I truly want to act and project poise and self-assurance. For me, after reflection and deep pondering, I believe my self-consciousness of being tall comes from a lack of focus and understanding of who I am, my value and my worth despite any physical attributes. It is easy to talk about how important and unique we each are, but do we truly internalize it? In reality, how blessed I am to have a body that can work, hug, feel the breathe of a breeze across my cheek, enjoy a kiss from my sweetheart, play with my grandkids, laugh with my children, serve, all the countless blessings that come from being alive. My journey, as may be yours, is to stand tall and proud. It is our obligation to love our body and care for it as the hallowed vessel it is. Also, it is our duty to ceaselessly improve our soul: personality, talents, gifts while continually serving others with all our energy, and to be grateful for our life here on this earth. The media or culture may scream their definition of what we are to look like: size, shape, height, features, and many other faulty and flawed opinions that are thrown at us unceasingly. Possibly we attach our own ‘perfect picture’ which actually detracts us from seeing the beauty and exceptional individual we really are. Whatever the case may be, we can find the exquisiteness, loveliness and magnificent person we are, and embrace it. How? By being thankful for what we have, not comparing ourselves with others, and improving in ways God would have us do. Let’s love what we are, stand proud, and with grace proclaim our individual value and worth to the world and our selves. Thank you Carrie for sharing your beautiful thoughts with us.
