Oh, how I love anything vintage! Right now I am into vintage sheets. I love their floral prints, their feel, their story. And they make great sewing fabric! How do you like this skirt made from vintage sheets? I just love it. And no, I am not he seamstress. This was made by a lady who has a booth at the Farmer's Market here in Idaho Falls. Do I know her name? No. Do I know how fabulous her skirts are? Yes! Next time I am at the farmer's market I will ask her for her name. She is very creative, as you can see. I love how she uses a variety of sheets in one skirt. And adds some detailing in vintage lace and some T-shirt flowers. How fun! When I grow up I want my skirts to look just like her skirts! Haha!
Do you like vintage sheets? What is your favorite thing to sew with them? Or do you use them on your beds? Have a great day! Here are a couple of quotes I like about making good choices that will bring happiness to your life now and later. "When you are faced with an important decision, be sure that your choice will lead you nearer to Christ." Paul V. Johnson “Thoughts, like water, will stay on course if we make a place for them to go. As you learn to control your thoughts, you can gain courage, conquer fear and have a happy life.”
Boyd K. Packer I made some mixed media wedding cards to give to the brides and grooms. I had some vintage Bride Bingo cards on hand that I thought would make a great canvas. On the backside I adhered some diverse papers at random with Mod Podge. The ephemera stuck out a bit, so I had to trim the edges. I drew out a dress then cut the pieces out of different white colored papers and used matte medium to decoupage them to my card. I added some ribbon and paint and other embellishments and voila! I called them finished. I made five of them. Now I'm set for the next five weddings...

This corner in my house makes me smile. I call it my "Happy Corner" and I thought it was time to share it with you... Hope you like it as much as I do.... I pretty much collected a few of my favorite items into one corner of my house. My house isn't very big, so I have to be very selective with what I allow to enter it and take up room.... Some of these items you may have seen before. The chair for instance has been featured before right here. Though it was a different color back then.... the Idaho map and library catalog are in a blog post over here. But what can I say. I love them and they make me smile, so they have stayed in the house for quite some years now. Another thing that makes me smile is sock-monkeys. They are just so playful and spontaneous. I love 'em! I like to use them as decoration around the house and give them away as gifts sometimes as well. Here is a post about another sockmonkey. I love this little world globe ornament hanging down from the star. It reminds me of the opening scene of the movie Emma (from Jane Austen) Do you remember it? Emma made a globe ornament as a wedding gift for her former governess Miss Taylor. My star is hanging upside down. Well, lets just say, it is pointing down. I leaned that a five-pointed star with the point pointing down represents the North Star. A constant. The star of Bethlehem. And it represents Christ. After I read about that I immediately flipped my wooden star over and hung the "world" under it, so Jesus could watch over all of us. At least that's what it represents tome right there in the corner of my living room.... This Vermont pillow shows how much I love someone in Burlington: my daughter is serving a mission there right now for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And I am the crazy mom who had to make a pillow right way when I found out where her first area was.... Ukuleles seem to be the newest trendy musical instrument to play. Well, trendy of not: it is just a fun way to enjoy music in the home! I love it when my daughters play! I'm not a big fan of pop/soda, especially not cola, so I was happy to find this vintage wooden box that said "7-Up" instead of the usual "Cola" Great find. I also like my pillows. Pillows are just happy, aren't they?
Included are a few quotes that I am really impressed with today:
one by Marjorie Pay Hinkley, one by Mahatma Ghandi, and one by Boyd K. Packer.
Included are some ideas for a time capsule church activity, to be opened up in five years.
As a leader of the Beehives (12 and 13 year old girls) we recently had a Sunday lesson on making choices and realized that the next five years will include choices that will shape the rest of their lives.
Shortly after lesson, the girls suggested we make a time-capsule for a Beehive class activity
The girls filled out info sheets about who they are today, their goals for the next five years as well as some silly things of way-in-the future goals (marriage, wedding, etc).
I also encouraged them to bring a small item that would represent who they are today (for instance one girl wore a headband about 6.5 days a week this school-year whilst she was growing out her bangs: she brought a headband). Each girl had her own set of info note cards, inserted into her envelope with her name and the current date on the front.
After the activity I drove to the local Family Home Storage Center where the can was sealed for less than a dollar.
At the time of high school graduation (five years from now), we plan to get together and (with a can-opener) open the time capsule and remember the good old times, while also evaluating on how we have done in accomplishing our goals and laughing at some silliness. I can't wait...!! The next five years will bring so much change for these girls....
The printable for the info note cards I used is from All Things Bright and Beautiful.
We will open our capsules at High School Graduation 2020, as five of our girls will graduate then and one in 2021 (I will save her envelope for one year for her). This was a super fun activity that will bring back some fabulous memories five years from now. These girls will have changed so much from now. I hope they appreciate their old selves, as I sure love them now and thoroughly enjoy their company, as I'm sure I will then too. I am so appreciative of my opportunity to get to spend time with these girls a couple of times a week.

Reversible Slouchy Sling Bag
Free Stefanie Sewing Pattern
Remember theStefanie Sling Bag free sewing pattern?
I decided to make this fun bag again.
tquWow, I had forgotten how much fun it was to sew this bag. I made it as a gift for my mother. I hope she likes it. My father was a huge fan of elephants, so this cute elephant pattern was a natural choice. Such an easy pattern, fun to put together, easy to use. Folds up small (if you use a light cotton fabric that is), so that will is very practical. Plus the wide strap on the shoulder makes it very comfortable to wear/carry.
This time I added an interior zipped pocket.
I love those zipper pockets. So handy to keep a few small items safely stowed away.
And a cute bag to boot, even if I do say so myself....

Young Women Lesson
Come, Follow Me - May How Can I Strengthen My Testimony?
This is the handout I used for the lesson on strengthening testimony.
I bought a package of seeds (quite seasonable this time of year) and attached this image of Alma 32: 28 from Holy Handouts This would also be a great handout to go with a lesson on faith.
I used sunflower seeds, because they sprout so easily and the flowers have an impressively big impact, but any seed packet will do.
The lessen mentioned Redwood trees: huge trees with tiny seeds.
Some people speak of a testimony as if it were a light switch—it’s either on or off; you either have a testimony, or you do not. In reality, a testimony is more like a tree that passes through various stages of growth and development. Some of the tallest trees on earth are found in Redwood National Park in the western United States. When you stand at the base of these massive trees, it is amazing to think that each one grew from a tiny seed. So it is with our testimonies. Although they may begin with a single spiritual experience, they grow and develop over time through constant nourishment and frequent spiritual encounters.
