Are you tall and have problems finding tops that fit right?
Are tops too short or too long?

Hello to all of the followers of Crystelle Boutique! I'm happy to be guest posting on Crystelle's blog today. I’m Julie and I blog at Home Is Where The Heart Is. Each day of the week I blog about a different category. On Fridays, I blog about anything about fashion and beauty. Are you tall and have problems finding tops that fit right? Are tops too short or too long? I am 5'10" and I sometimes have problems finding tops that fit just right. I have a long torso, so I have to find tops that are the perfect length. I can't have the top be too short or too long. If the top is too short, I have to constantly pull it down. If the top is too long, it doesn't look right on me. My torso is long enough and looks too long with long tops.

~A polka-dot dress on a pretty fall day in Idaho, riding an "Amsterdam" bike~ That's right: we like to combine Dutch and American things around here. After all, I have a bit of a dual personality: half my heart resides in the Netherlands, and the other half lives here in Idaho. I have loved-ones in both places. Speaking of love: I am loving my new dress: black and white polka-dots! Our Tall Tales guest post this week comes from the lovely and gracious (and tall) Bonnie from Creative Decorating on a Budget. Not only does Bonnie know how to decorate her home with flair without going overboard financially, she also knows how to dress professionally at work in a frugal yet fashionable way.
Included are a week's worth of her favorite outfits and numerous tips on how to dress your best at work for tall ladies. Bonnie is a working mom. She and her husband have two teenage sons. We are glad Bonnie took time out of her busy family and work schedule to share with us how she pulls off looking good in a business casual environment. Clearance shopping is so much fun - being able to score something fun with a very attractive price-tag. Especially when it comes to shoes, it is so exciting to find high-quality shoes at a fraction of the cost. I really don't go shoe shopping very often, but this time, my daughter Gretchen and I headed to the mall and came home with (count them) 10 pairs of shoes to share between the two of us! SCORE! Some cute, some practical, some awesome name-brands. All of them super comfy.... They should last us a while. I don't care that I am wearing last years' styles. Do you? Sweat Pants That are Long and Cozy on Tall Girls
So I have a confession to make… I never wear pajama PANTS. Well, very rarely anyway. The reason is that they look like floods on me. (I wear capri-type things). I was always jealous of the girls with the pants dragging on the floor looking as cozy as could be. It is so fun that lace is in style right now. We love how classy and feminine it is. Let's see how we make a lace skirt work for tall legs and how we learn to take time to enjoy life (smell the flowers) from a neighbor's horse. Read more.... If you look closely at a tree you'll notice its knots and dead branches, just like our bodies. What we learn is that beauty and imperfection go together wonderfully. Matthew Fox Okay, so I can't keep it a secret any longer: truth be told: I am not perfect, and neither is my body: I do not have the perfect figure. My body shape is what they refer to as "pear-shaped" A pear: Small-ish at the top, big-ish at the bottom. There, I said it: the truth is out.... And I'm not as skinny as I used to be either. They call that "Aging" and "Looking good for your age" Whatever.... I just laugh at it all! haha! So I'm not perfect, so what? I think I'm pretty cool actually. It is amazing what my body can do! I love how my body is healthy and strong. At 5'11" people used to tell me: "Oh, you are so tall, you should be a model." (They don't really tell me that anymore ~ I guess it's that aging thing again: Interesting....) Now I have some grey hairs and some wrinkles. And that pear-body we talked about before. Oh well. Who cares anyway. I did not become a model when I was younger because modeling takes more than height! Haha! Nicole Kidman and I are both 5'11'' - and we are about the same age as well.
Seriously, though: As a model you are expected to be extremely photogenic (I'm not: trust me there!) And have the perfect figure (I don't have that either, remember the pear-shape?) But I have discovered a few things I can do to flatter my imperfect body-shape a bit: For instance: an A-line skirt really works well for my triangle-shaped body: Skinny at the waist, flaring out toward the bottom. I feel attractive in it, and pretty and feminine, and all that good stuff! And currently floral pints are "in" so even better. I love flowers. So all in all, I try to love my perfect imperfections (Think 'All of Me' by John Legend) And move on. There are more important things to worry about. Right? I think so... xox, Crystelle ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Tall Tales is a fashion series about clothing for tall girls of all ages For more Tall Tales posts, please click here We welcome guest-posts from fellow tall girls: If you are a woman of 5'10 or taller, and would like to contribute to our Tall Tales Series, please contact us here. We look forward to working with you! “The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she knows.” ― Audrey Hepburn Stunning eyes, a perfect figure, and gorgeous hair are only surface appearances. True beauty is more than skin-deep. All of us are guilty of it: worrying about the way we look.
But why? The question is: if true beauty is so much more than appearances, why do we give it so much attention? Two reasons:
The world prizes body-baring “beauty.” Hollywood markets it, advertisers exploit it, and the media promote it. Think of a person you know well, whom you completely adore, someone you consider to be completely beautiful. Now think of what she is, what makes you love her so much? I would venture to guess that the attributes you use to describe her are mostly characteristics, not physical attributes. You find her beautiful because of who she really IS, NOT what she looks like. "The Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7). If we could see ourselves as the Lord sees us, even for one minute or less, all our insecurities of our appearances would forever vanish. True inner beauty cannot be purchased in the cosmetic isle or the plastic surgeons' office. It comes from years of developing oneself: serving others, becoming well-educated, learning interpersonal communication skills. Developing a meaningful relationships with others and God. It comes from years of hard work, of faithfully enduring trials with optimism, trust, strength, and courage. True beauty, doesn’t wash off. It is spiritual attractiveness. Deep beauty springs from virtue. It is the beauty of being chaste and morally clean. It is the deep spiritual beauty is found in the person you thought of earlier: a person you look up to. Was it you mother, your grandmother. Was it someone you sincerely look up to? We are led to believe that physical attractiveness is of true value: we women must all look like the elusive model on the cover of a magazine, or the skinny and talented actress. The Lord would tell us that we are each uniquely beautiful. When we are virtuous, chaste, and morally clean, our inner beauty glows in our eyes and in our face. Elaine Dalton's grandfather used to say, “If you live close to God and His infinite grace-- you won’t have to tell, it will show in your face.” Choose to be a person people look up to because of who you are, not because of what you look like. Be confident in choosing good, and your inner beauty will shine brightly. In beauty pageants, there is only one who gets to wear the crown. But with the Lord there is no competition. We are all winners because we are His. I hope your week will be marked with true beauty. xox, Crystelle Tall Tales is a fashion series about clothing for tall girls of all ages For more Tall Tales posts, please click here Juliette's ensemble shirt: DownEast, Cardigan: Ross, shorts: T.J. We look forward to working with you! Cute little t-shirt fabric daisy circle-skirt gets some additional inches added What I love about circle skirts is that they are so flowy and feminine and in a light-weight jersey fabric they are also easy to care for and very comfy (it's like wearing a t-shirt!). But, was this particular skirt too short for comfort? Gretchen and I found this happy skirt at Ross when we were visiting family in Boise, Idaho. She immediately fell in love with the print, the style, and the fit. While my youngest daughter Gretchen (5'3") isn't quite as tall as her older sister and mother (both 5'11"), this skirt was still too short for her to be appropriate or relaxing to wear in public. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ To the rescue came the sewing machine and some scrap fabric I had on hand. She went through my pile of left-over fabrics in white, black and yellow and came up with a combination of two: a yellow and a white with black polka-dots. It's a good thing that she wanted only a little accent of yellow, because I really didn't have much. In order to make the little strip around the bottom I had to piece five yellow strips together. Fortunately we had a bit more of the polka dot fabric on hand, but even at that I still needed to piece four strips together to make it work: one thing about circle skirts is that the are sooooooo wide at the bottom. Actually this is not a true circle skirt. An actual circle skirt would be an actual circle when you lay it down flat. This skirt is actually only a half circle. It falls so pretty when you wear it. All in all she is very happy with this skirt. She wore it to church and received lots of compliments, and that really made her day. (Don't we all perk up a bit when we receive a compliment?) The daisies on the skirt are so happy and cheerful and match her bubbly personality so well.... Hoping your week is happy and cheerful!
