It is so fun that lace is in style right now. We love how classy and feminine it is. Let's see how we make a lace skirt work for tall legs and how we learn to take time to enjoy life (smell the flowers) from a neighbor's horse.

The best things in life aren't things ~ Mixed Media ~ Yellow and Turquoise / Blue Sometimes we get so busy. So very very busy.... Doing busy things. That's when it is time to step back and re-evaluate: What am I doing with my time? Is what I am doing important? Will it be important next week? Will it be of importance next year? Ten years from now? Mixed media has become such a favorite for me, because the rules are little bit more relaxed. You can draw, glue, stamp, use found objects, etc, etc. I love it. Basically it is like being back in kindergarten and having permission to just "play" with your canvas.... Everything you do to it is considered to be great. And the adults in you life give you all the kudos you need when you show them your finished product. No judgements made. No-one has to be perfect. Does life get any better than that? ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I am not quite sure if this picture of the girl with the quote: "the best things in life aren't "things" is perfect, but I had a perfectly great time putting it together...!! I used some cheerful happy spring colors {my favorites any time of year!!}, and added vintage papers, vintage measuring tape, paint, etc. SO fun to do. Funny thing is that the print of the paper I used as her skin-color makes it look like she has tatoos on her arms.... At least that's what struck me.... Now just in case you have a hard time making decisions: here is my go-ahead for you to go-ahead and be as awesome as you can be!!! Watch this short little clip about what things we should prioritize in our lives: Great little reminder of the things that matter most. Never let a problem to be solved be more important than a person to be loved ~ Thomas S. Monson ~ Go ahead and be awesome today!! xox Crystelle Linen-look pillow inspired by Pharrell Williams' song ~ Happy Pillows really cheer up the place. Don't you think? Why is that? For one the word "throw pillows" hints at the random relaxed atmosphere they invite. After all, as the word suggests: you just kind of toss them about, throw them where you want them to be. What I visualize is this: just tossing them at the person across the room from you! Maybe he or she sends it flying it back.... Perhaps you even have a pillow fight!!?? Sounds fun, right? Pillows make a sterile environment seem more like home: a place to sit down, relax, stay a while, put your feet up {maybe} and visit for a while. Be yourself. I like to have a variety of pillows in the living-room to encourage a cozy vibe. I've noticed that the song "Happy" by Pharrel Williams puts a spring in my step, as well as that of my children..... Sooooo................. I decided to combine the two: "Because I'm Happy"~ Pillow To make this pillow I used some linen-look canvas I had on hand in the sewing room. The font is Veteran Typewriter and the text was applied using the CitraSolve Method. {Described in this post under Printing Numbers Unto Fabric} For a 20 inch pillow insert I made a 19 inch case for a fluffy full-looking pillow. I must say that the whole family has enjoyed having this new fluffy feather-filled friend in the room. I like this happy pillow because I think it looks cute on the sofa, and everyone else thinks it is a great companion for naps and TV-watching.... What do you do when you feel happy?
Around here we do a lot of "dancing" in the kitchen..... Because I’m happy Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof Because I’m happy Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth Because I’m happy Clap along if you know what happiness is to you Because I’m happy Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do For the year 2014 we wish you all the best: much joy, peace, and happiness...! And much time to spend with loved ones.... Happy Cheerful Bright Pillow With the Word "Laugh" In my effort of trying to make our home a happy cheerful place to come home to at the end of a school or work day, I found myself browsing around the local "Home Fabrics" store.. there I found some nice happy cheerful fabric with fun colors as a base and started my house decorating around the style and colors. So I choose some fabrics in my stash that would match my "base" fabric and made a fun and happy pillow. I drew a cheerful big girl on a swing to illustrate the theme of happiness. Don't you love that exhilarating playful feeling of the wind in your hair (and your stomach doing flip-flops) as you swing on a good old-fashioned swing? Hey, swings aren't just for kids anymore, right? Right!! I then made a fabric applique based onthe drawing. Even the face is stitched by machine! Though that was kinda tricky. {I must admit: I just painted the lips rather than stitching them by machine, because that was above my sewing skills level... ;)...} Now this bright and cheerful pillows welcomes all guests and residents who visit our entry. I hope it helps in some small way brighten someone's day...!! I am curious: What tricks do you use to lighten the mood in your home? I needed to make her something to remember this momentous occasion by: a little mixed media piece inspired by her AND Taylor Swift's song: "22" After all, you only turn 22 once in your lifetime.... :) "Uh oh! I don't know about you But I'm feeling 22" "Yeah, We're happy, free, confused, and lonely in the best way" It was a lot of fun to play with some old papers and glue and paint. I even found some fun old thingies: a bingo piece (with the number 22!!!) and a vintage tape measure (with the 22 featured at center stage.... ) It was fun to think of this super fun person while I was making it: my favorite 22 year old in the whole world! whatdoyouthink...??? We love our chickens, and we love the eggs they lay. Their eggs taste great and I believe they are healthy too. And I think they looks adorable.... :) So for Easter-time this year, I decided to make our chicken's eggs the focal point in our table centerpiece, turning their eggs into tiny little vases to hold tiny flowers. These little eggshell vases are easy to make: Just gently tap the top of your egg. Carefully peel some of the eggshell away, till the hole is the size you like. Poor out the contents. (Your family will love the goodies you will make with those eggs...!!!) Carefully wash out the eggshells. Arrange them in an egg-carton or other container that will keep them upright. Fill your empty eggshells with water. Cut your flowers to a short length and place them in your little eggshell vases. Enjoy your pretty little Easter centerpiece! Happy Easter! FYI: eggshells from roaming chickens are a bit tougher than those you buy from the store, so they make perfect little vases. However, I am sure store-bought eggs would work just fine.... This video above is such a beautiful quick rendition of the last week of Jesus' life: Palm Sunday through Resurrection Morning. Well-worth your seven minutes of time! I promise.... :)
Crystelle Partying with these bloggy friends.... & the Charm of Home, Coastal Charm, Savvy Southern Style, Today’s Creative Blog, Home Stories A 2 Z, The Shabby Nest, The Shabby Creek Cottage, Thrifty Decor Chick, Between Naps on the Porch Well, it's chilly this time of year, so I got busy making some heart-shaped hand-warmers. We always do a cookie exchange with all my besties, but as we are all getting a little more health-conscious (aka older), a little gift is more appropriate... So when I saw these cute handwarmers that Jessi made at Practically Functional, I knew what my girlfriends were getting this year for Christmas.... I had lots of sweater remnants from upcycled sweater pillows I've made, so it was fun to make these cute little heart hand warmers in lots of different colors... :) {naturally my favorite colors are the mint and teal...: so retro cool... !!!} Now let's hope that they like them as much as I enjoyed making them for them.... Hope your winter is nice and cozy warm! P.S. Just pop these little rice bags into the microwave for about 30 seconds and place them into your pockets or gloves before you go outside on a chilly day I link up to a number of these bloggy friends.... as well as to Savvy Southern Style, Today’s Creative Blog, Home Stories A 2 Z, The Shabby Nest, The Shabby Creek Cottage, Thrifty Decor Chick, Between Naps on the Porch |
