Easy one-pot recipe makes a hearty meal for the family.
Consumed in large amounts in the colder months,
hutspot is made of potatoes, carrots and onions.
And.....:
it's super delicious!
it is their favorite Dutch meal.
Because of the carrots, I thought it would be an OK meal for Easter week.
My kids are on spring break, but I can't say that it is very warm outside, so when they come in from playing, a warm meal of hutspot is a great comfort food to fill their bellies...... :)
"jus" (Dutch gravy) and often also "rookworst" (smoked sausage).
Recipe Hutspot
- 8 potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 8 carrots, scraped and cut into chunks
- 2 onions, chopped
- beef stock
- 1 ring Polish sausage or similar
- jus* or gravy
Place the potatoes, onions and carrots in the pan. Add beef stock to almost cover. Place sausage on top. Cover, bring to a boil. Turn down heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes. Remove sausage and about half of the cooking liquid. Mash the dish together by hand with a masher (you may have a to add a bit of liquid). Serve with sausage and Dutch jus* or gravy. (Some families serve it with mustard.)
